Tanjong Katong Girl’s School

Tanjong Katong Girl’s School, also called the Premier School of the East, is an all-girls school in Singapore. Tanjong Katong Girl’s School was originally opened in January 1953 with only seven classes, two hundred fifty-five students, and a teaching staff of only ten. It was the first English secondary school set up by the Singapore government after WWII. By 1960, enrollment in the school had increased to about 1200. In 1962, Tanjong Katong Girl’s School became an integrated school.

Today, Tanjong Katong Girl’s School strives to create accomplished young women of character and grace. Students at this school are getting the education and training they need to become the leaders of tomorrow. Tanjong Katong Girl’s School’s aesthetics department offers a music elective program, general music program, food and consumer education program, design and technology program, as well as a design and technology program. They offer the best, intensive English language and English literature departments in the area. Students are being educated to engage with and express themselves in the literary arts. This school is one of the few in Singapore that offers the Music Elective Programme.
